Mid-term history exam Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Mid-term history test - Essay Example He addressed Pope’s authority likewise, by saying that, â€Å"pope †¦cannot transmit any punishments other than those which he has forced either by his own power or by that of the Canons (Luther, 5). With these words and comparable contentions in his theories, Luther was scrutinizing the idea of legitimacy â€Å"held by Catholic Church† and was challenging â€Å" those ministers of indulgences†¦ who state that by the pope’s guilty pleasures a man is liberated from each punishment, and saved† (Luther, 21). In spite of the fact that likely Martin Luther had no clue with regards to what he had begun, his analysis and rebel against the extravagances were sharp and centered. Antiquarians have seen that however Martin Luther had expected â€Å"his postulations to incite insightful discussion, †¦(he) couldn't have foreseen the sensational open response† (McNeese, 5). The Roman Catholic Church was back then, actually â€Å"selling indulgenc es†, which were â€Å"traditionally conceded to somebody when the person in question admitted a sin† (McNeese, 4). It was the point at which the heathen was playing out an atonement â€Å"to get forgiveness†, that the Church needed to give a guilty pleasure (McNeese, 4). This is clarified as â€Å"an demonstration of devotion, to help give total absolution and to demonstrate that the heathen was, in reality, sorry for having done wrong† (McNeese, 4). Be that as it may, â€Å"by the Middle Ages, the teaching of guilty pleasures permitted individuals to pay cash (to the congregation) as opposed to a devout act† (McNeese, 4). Martin Luther was essentially rebelling against this offer of extravagances. Besides, by the fifteenth century, Pope Sixtus IV professed to have the ability to discharge the spirits of the dead from the atonement they were encountering in Purgatory† (McNeese, 4). This provoked individuals to â€Å"buy a guilty pleasure to h elp assist an expired adored one’s discharge from Purgatory† (McNeese, 4). It was against this â€Å"profiteering† of the congregation from the guilty pleasures that Martin Luther principally distributed his 95 Theses. At the point when it was distributed, the congregation needed him to â€Å"confess his wrong† doing, he didn't respect that, and the pope suspended him (McNeese, 5). Not long after these turns of events, Luther built up his own religious philosophy and it represented â€Å"salvation through confidence in God instead of through functions and great works† (McNeese, 6). He invalidated organization additionally (McNeese, 6). Luther additionally condemned the Popes who were enjoying â€Å"extravagance and luxury† (McNeese, 4). Luther accepted religion to be an individual thing for every single person when he stated, â€Å"every genuinely humble Christian has a privilege to full reduction of punishment and blame, even without letter s of pardon† (Luther, 36). Continuously, the 95 proposals of Martin Luther turned into the sparkle that started the fire of protestant reorganization (McNeese, 6). At a zenith purpose of this strict development, Lutheranism turned into the official religion for some German states and Sweden (McNeese, 7). Calvin created Luther’s thoughts and spread them to Switzerland, France, Scotland and England (McNeese, 7). Britain, grasped Protestantism, wholeheartedly. Later in England, a counter-reorganization was driven by Catholic Church, which was just in part fruitful (McNeese, 9). Be that as it may, Luther lamented his proclaiming, when renewal transformed into a peasants’ insurgency in Germany (McNeese, 7). More slaughter and threats followed all through the reconstruction and the

Evolution is Not Just a Theory :: Argumentative Persuasive Topics

Development isn't Just a Theory   â Evolution is a reality in that researchers know past sensible uncertainty that it occurred. The specific component of advancement - that is, precisely how it occurred - is as yet a hypothesis.  Advancement is both a reality and a hypothesis. Standard researchers think of it as a reality that advancement happened; how it happened is as yet thought to be a hypothesis. Stephen J. Gould depicts this distinction best: In the American vernacular, 'hypothesis' regularly signifies 'flawed truth' - some portion of a chain of importance of certainty running downhill from reality to hypothesis to theory to figure. Accordingly the intensity of the creationist contention: advancement is 'just' a hypothesis and serious discussion presently seethes about numerous parts of the hypothesis. On the off chance that development is more awful than a reality, and researchers can't make up their psyches about the hypothesis, at that point what certainty would we be able to have in it? In fact, President Reagan reverberated this contention before a zealous gathering in Dallas when he said (in what I sincerely trust was battle talk): 'Well, it is a hypothesis. It is a logical hypothesis in particular, and it has as of late been tested in the realm of science - that is, not trusted in mainstream researchers to be as dependable as it once might have been.'  Well advancement is a hypothesis. It is additionally a reality. Furthermore, realities and hypotheses are various things, not rungs in a progressive system of expanding sureness. Realities are the world's information. Speculations are structures of thoughts that clarify and decipher realities. Realities don't leave when researchers banter rival hypotheses to clarify them. Einstein's hypothesis of attractive energy supplanted Newton's in this century, yet apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the result. Also, people developed from primate like precursors whether they did as such by Darwin's proposed instrument or by some other yet to be found.  Also, 'reality' doesn't signify 'supreme sureness'; there ain't no such creature in an energizing and complex world. The last verifications of rationale and science stream deductively from expressed premises and accomplish assurance simply because they are NOT about the exact world. Evolutionists make no case for never-ending truth, however creationists frequently do (and afterward assault us erroneously for a style of contention that they themselves favor). In science 'reality' must signify 'affirmed to such an extent, that it is unreasonable to retain temporary assent'. I guess that apples may begin to rise tomorrow, however the chance doesn't justify equivalent time in material science study halls.

Accounting Theory and Current Issues Positive Accounting Research

Question: Talk about theAccounting Theory and Current Issuesfor Positive Accounting Research. Answer: Presentation The current examination depends on basic assessment of Half a Defense of Positive Accounting Research composed by Paul V Dunmore for Massey University, Wellington, New Zealand. In this exploration paper, positive way to deal with bookkeeping is analyzed from a more extensive perspective so as to get circumstances and logical results relationship. This article plans to create easygoing clarifications of human conduct in bookkeeping settings. The target of present writing study is to survey the significance of present article in the field of positive bookkeeping. For this angle, an at first synopsis of the article will be given by concentrating on its fundamental contention. It will be trailed by explore questions and hypothetical structure to build up a comprehension of its writing survey. By considering writing survey, essentialness and confinement of the article will be assessed so as to reach a substantial inference. Rundown of The Article Positive bookkeeping hypothesis is one of the pivotal portion of scholastic bookkeeping research which plans to assess and estimates real practices in bookkeeping. This methodology is conversely with the standardizing bookkeeping which is centered around the portrayal of ideal bookkeeping gauges. A large portion of a Defense of Positive Accounting Research had assessed philosophy and epistemology of positive research by thinking about lacks of present acts of bookkeeping research. Further, it additionally decides approaches to improve approach of present bookkeeping to advance better practices that can be trailed by people. A preeminent contention in the article is that positive bookkeeping requires better hypothetical models which are exceptionally explicit and defenseless. The article expresses that unseemly advancement in positive bookkeeping is because of impromptu quantitative models which are confined to anticipated indication of a connection between two factors. These models a re not organized in an appropriate way because of which it can't be operationalized. In the contemporary time, there is a requirement for viable measures to which hypothetical models can be tried thoroughly. It is on the grounds that bookkeeping ideas are to be operationalized cautiously on the side of fascinating ideas which are gainful and noteworthy for organizations. Strategy producers are required to concentrate on thought of proper utilitarian structure with can be structure better straight relationship with the current bookkeeping ideas. Investigation of Paul V Dunmore shows that after the foundation of dependable way for estimating an idea then it will be viewed as standard for additional examinations. This methodology will forestall reevaluation of estimation of each examination and advance improvement in measures. A further contention in this article is about transference in consideration away from the testing of speculations towards a guess of parameters. For this perspective, certainty interims for parameters is should have been contrasted and hypothetical forecasts or with similar estimations of those parameters from other applicable investigations. As per the current article, there is a requirement for information documents of estimations of significant ideas for the testing of specific hypotheses and add to the chronicle. It is on the grounds that shaping of mindful estimations is a significant aptitude for which results are to be recognized as a major aspect of the control in inquire about movement. These estimations fill in as assets just as imperatives for future hypothetical advances. In last, there is a need for boundless replication, so as to make legitimate determinations from theory testing. This will aid affirmation of exactness of estimations and for investigating the constraints of appropriateness of research discoveries. Research Question Considered article is centered around the basic assessment of positive bookkeeping examination, and its exploration questions are identified as beneath: What is required for a fruitful positive research program? What are the helpless models that are tried rigidly What are the methods of investigative displaying? Regardless of whether ought to be centered around estimation as opposed to testing? To decide the reasonability of existing outcomes so as to investigate furthest reaches of materialness of past discoveries? Hypothetical Framework The audit uncovers extreme downsides in the presentation of positive bookkeeping research which keeps it away from giving a viable contribution in expansive based activities. An essential necessity of a huge subjective research is that the calculated blueprints keep up the principles of testing so as to restrain their relevance in the exploration. Such speculations must be planned with tests against one another for arriving at a fitting resolution. The requirement for broad replication of the exploration may emerge so as to confirm the ends driven from the testing of speculation. A move in center is additionally required to build up an applied system. This move ought to be from hypothesis testing towards ascertainment of the fundamental blueprints of the examination. Better estimation instruments are the need of a bookkeeping examination to be great. This may bring about better assessment and testing of the models grew up until now. Likewise, the models which structure the premise of speculation testing must be created. These models must be obviously expressed and should be liberated from ecological defenselessness. Some great research has been considered for outlining the models. Significant analysis plot in the article by Paul V Dunmore are listed as beneath: Positive bookkeeping doesn't give any solution as it clarifies and predicts what might occur as opposed to explaining what should occur. This angle doesn't fulfill significant point of positive bookkeeping hypothesis. Hypothesis of constructive bookkeeping isn't without esteem as it simply centered around the clarification of what individuals may do by overlooking the perspective that what are they are really required to do. In this hypothesis supposition that is made that each activity of the executives and investors have their personal circumstance with the essential objective of boosting their own riches without thought of its antagonistic viewpoints. As indicated by Kuhn typical science fittingly fits to be utilized in positive bookkeeping research rather in real sciences. A bookkeeping research which is sure in all viewpoints has a critical commitment towards understanding the conduct of people. This is on the grounds that positive bookkeeping research incorporated some personal conduct standards. Kuhn additionally contends that a model is supplanted just when it can no longer help the idea of typical science, and it causes some progressive emergencies in certain structures. Because of some explanation it has been dissected that social framework doesn't stay stable isn't nevertheless selection of revised framework properly fit to propel information won't prompt any emergencies. The idea of typical science proposes that center trademark highlights of the aggregate common framework remembered for positive bookkeeping research are recognizable and commonsense downsides of the examination. The target of this social framework is to outfit a few questions identified with human conduct to the specialists. Subsequently, it helps them to have answers for these questions with a next to no exertion. The social framework may not really add to our effectively detailed data identified with human conduct with regards to bookkeeping. The security of the social framework stays in question for an all-inclusive timeframe. Yet, this doesn't infer selection of another framework each time another emergency is tended to in the examination, which best suits the current data. In this way, Kuhn sees ordinary science as an illuminating action, confirmed by the taking part gathering. He portrays ordinary science in a remedial setting territory of the arrangement of practices, convicti ons, and perspectives that are very much changed to conform to the necessities of the gathering and settle various questions identified with the matter of bookkeeping research. In the event that all the speculations are detailed such that they have some measure of truth in them, at that point they could serve a wide assortment of monetary interests. They additionally underscore the significance of estimation of theory testing as opposed to simply testing of speculation. Watts and Zimmerman (1978, 1986, 1990), nearly protected Positive Accounting Theory; anyway it very well may be said that their hypothesis was a lot of limited in contrast with the expansive based idea of positive research. They had advanced that bookkeeping occasions happen in light of the capacities performed by parties that go into equipped agreements of work with some specific goal. These capacities involve explicit bookkeeping activities as well as different choices which are identified with evaluating and other significant elements of the administration (De Angelo, 1981) Positive bookkeeping research is a social framework which is settled for commitment in the exploration ventures. Be that as it may, the motivation behind each examination might be not the same as another. The thought of the disciplinary network utilized by Kuhn (1970) exhorts that positive research might be a model that can be ideally utilized for explaining puzzles, independent of its commitment in the social framework. The capability of bookkeeping exploration can be achieved distinctly by expectation of future emergencies and openings in it.. Numerous different territories of positive bookkeeping research are not founded on these hypothetical models. The centrality of these significant writing models endeavors to get their inductions from the costs that the clients of bookkeeping data use as a base to their choices. Further research has been led to build up a controlling framework that tries to comprehend the elements which cause appropriation of certain hypotheses (Davila and Foster, 2007). These methodologies assume the discerning conduct of people (Fukuyama 1995, p. 13). These methodologies of hypotheses additionally recommend that the essential model of adjusted, self-centered conduct of people is exact

Seeing the Reality of Adulthood Eye Symbolism in The Member of the Wedding - Literature Essay Samples

The Member of the Wedding, by Carson McCullers discusses the life of a 12 year old girl, Frankie, who is transitioning from childhood to adulthood.  Frankie feels disconnected from the rest of the world, having lost her mother when she was born, and has a distant father who is barely mentioned. In the novel, she spends much of her time with her housekeeper, Berenice, and her cousin, John Henry West, as she comes to realize that she is not a member of anything. When she hears that her brother is getting married, she desperately latches on to the idea of being a member of the wedding and attempts to jump into adulthood. However, she comes to realizes that adulthood is not as a great as she had pictured it and learns about the dangers of growing up. McCullers uses the symbol of the eyes to illustrate the inner conflicts characters face throughout the novel about the realities of adulthood. Berenice’s glass eye symbolizes her desire to remain young. Berenice is described in the beginning of the novel as having â€Å"a left eye that was bright blue glass. It stared out fixed and wild from her quiet, colored face, and why she wanted a blue eye nobody human would ever know. Her right eye was dark and sad† (McCullers 5). Berenice’s natural eye color is dark, however she chose to have a glass eye that was bright blue. The fact that she chose the color blue is significant because blue is typically associated with clarity and vision, however she cannot see out of the eye because it is not a real eye. The contrast between her two eye colors illustrates the contradiction Berenice is facing with her decision to remain young or settle down. While discussing Frankie’s obsession and jealousy of the wedding, Berenic e tells her that what â€Å"she needs to begin thinking about is a beau† (McCullers 82). Having a beau, or boyfriend, is a task typically associated with young adulthood. However, Berenice, a fairly old woman, has a boyfriend of her own by the name of T.T. Williams. When Frankie asks Berenice why she doesn’t settle down, she quickly responds by saying â€Å"I ain’t gonna marry him† (McCullers 95). Berenice’s quick response to this suggestion indicates a fear of marrying T.T. Williams. Berenice is scared to marry T.T. and settle down with him because she is unsure of her future and what settling down might entail. She will have to let go of her young image if she is going to marry T.T. Williams. Similarly, her fake, blue eye represents the clarity she pretends to see in her life. She acts as if she is sure she will not settle down or get married. On the other hand, her dark eye illustrates the fear she has of moving on in life and settling down with her boyfriend. Frankie’s eyes symbolize her confusion about maturity and adulthood. While talking to Frankie about her obsession with the wedding, Berenice tells Frankie that â€Å"she could see right through them two gray eyes of hers like they was glass. And what she saw was the saddest piece of foolishness she ever knew† (McCullers 107). Frankie’s eyes are gray, a color that is a combination of black and white. Black is a color typically associated with fear and the unknown, while white is associated with purity and innocence. These two colors contrast, giving her a grayish eye color, illustrating her struggles associated with the coming of age. She is set on becoming an adult, however she still has a sense of innocence that holds her back. Her innocence was illustrated when her father asked her: â€Å"who is this great big, long-legged, twelve-year-old blunderbuss who still wants to sleep with her old papa† (McCullers 24). Frankie had slept in the same bed as her fat her for many years, something a young child might typically do when they are scared, however she had gotten too big and her father no longer allowed it. This innocent gesture, coinciding with the color white in her eyes, was no longer accepted in her house and she begins to feel as if she is being forced to grow up. In order to try and prove she was an adult, she â€Å"committed a queer sin with Barney MacKean. The sin made a shriveling sickness in her stomach, and she dreaded the eyes of everyone† (McCullers 26). Although it does not explicitly say, it is likely that Frankie had sex with Barney in order to try and prove she was a mature adult. However, it is evident that she horribly regretted it and is extremely unhappy and scared that she had tainted her innocence. In relation to her eyes, this fear of having lost her innocence is represented by the black color. She is scared and does not know what to do because adulthood is an unknown concept to her. Thus, Frankie is stuc k in an awkward and uncomfortable stage where she is transitioning from childhood to adulthood. The white and black color come together to form a gray color, just as her innocence is put up against her fear of adulthood. John Henry’s glasses act as a symbol, illustrating Frankie’s understanding about the realities of adulthood. In the beginning of the novel little John Henry â€Å"had a little screwed white face and he wore tiny gold-rimmed glasses† (McCullers 5). It is significant that his face is white because white is a color that is associated with innocence. In addition, his glasses have gold rims which act as a filter to preserve Henry’s innocence. After making a terrible looking biscuit man, John Henry simply â€Å"looked at it through his glasses, wiped it with his napkin, and buttered the left foot† (McCullers 10). Although the biscuit man looked horrible, John Henry did not seem to notice its flaws as he looked through his gold-rimmed glasses. This can be applied to the larger theme of the novel in that the glasses filter out the harsh realities of adulthood. At one point in the novel Frankie tells John Henry to take off his glasses. He gives her them and as she â€Å"looked through the glasses, the room was loose and crooked. Then she pushed back her chair and stared at John Henry. There were two damp white circles around his eyes† (McCullers 14). When Henry looked at his messy biscuit man, he did not see any flaws with it. However, when Frankie put’s on the glasses it has quite the opposite effect. To her, everything looks flawed and crooked. The glasses aid her vision, for she is able to better see the flaws in the room. In addition, she sees that John Henry has white circles around his eyes. This further suggests that the glasses had been used a symbol to illustrate the filter-like effect the glasses had had on the innocence of John Henry. The white circles around his eyes indicate that he had been protected from the realities of adulthood, thus preserving his innocence. The reason Frankie sees differently than John Henry is because she has been exposed to some of the harsh realities of adulthood. This is best showc ased by Frankie’s interaction with the soldier. When she goes up to the soldier’s hotel room â€Å"he grasped her skirt. Limpened by fright, she was pulled own beside him on the bed†¦and in a second she was paralyzed by horror† (McCullers 136). The soldier had attempted to have sex with her, which terrified her, giving Frankie insight into the tough situations associated with adulthood. Because of this, she was able to see past this veil of innocence, unlike John Henry who was completely oblivious to the harsh realities of adulthood. Within The Member of the Wedding, eyes showcase the difficulties of maturing and becoming an adult. Berenice’s glass eye symbolized her desire to remain young. Frankie’s gray eyes symbolized her internal struggle between innocence and adulthood. And lastly, John Henry’s glasses showcased the harsh realities of growing up that are hidden by innocence.

Beware of Bright Objects Choosing a Role Model is Harder Than You Think Hult Blog

Although you may not be aware of it, one of the things that we human beings do quite naturally is imitate. We don’t have to think about it; we just do it. It’s how we learned to eat with a spoon (though using our hands was more fun), speak the language(s) we speak, and basically get along in a society with implicit and explicit expectations on us as citizens. For many of us, there comes a time in our lives when we consciously think, â€Å"I want to be like that person.† Be it a movie star, a tech geek, prominent statesman, or perhaps an â€Å"everyday† person who behaved extraordinarily under difficult circumstances. Fact is, we seek to improve ourselves by using others as examples, as role models. Regardless of who they are or what they’ve done, we seek out role models who seem â€Å"shiny† to us in some way. New research, however, shows that we may want to be more mindful about the role models we end up choosing. A shiny penny is not always a lucky one—for us. In her post â€Å"Choosing A Role Model Who Will Really Motivate You,† Annie Murphy Paul highlights an article from the Proceedings of the National Academies of Science by two researchers (Jerker Denrell of the University of Oxford and Chengwei Liu of the University of Warwick) who had drawn a somewhat surprising conclusion from their study (more on that below): they counsel us to model ourselves on solid, second-tier performers, not the flashy types who come in first,† wrote Murphy. So why exactly would we want to do that? Isn’t shinier better? In a word, no. In their study, Denrell and Lui asked participants to play a game that went on for several rounds. What they found at the end of it was that the most successful players were not the ones with the highest level of skill or intelligence. Rather, those who scored at the top of the heap were the ones who experienced the following: they got really lucky, or took some big risks that propelled them to the top—nothing more, nothing less. In the short term, luck played a crucial role in determining success. But what about the long term, in conditions more similar to real life? According to Murphy, â€Å"luck and risk play a dominant role in extraordinary outcomes.† That puts a different spin on those who are on the receiving end of said luck and risk play, right? Because suddenly it’s less about skill and hard work, and more about throwing caution to the wind and going for broke—or being in the right place at the right time for an opportune meeting with Lady Luck. Sure, we can all get lucky, but the spikes of good luck are coupled with the valleys of tough losses. If you’re less about short-term, exceptional wins, and more about long-term, consistent wins, then you’ll want to seek out role models who’ve pinned their achievements on hard work and a concerted effort to grow their skills over time, day by day. It may not seem as glamorous a path, but it’s one that can lead to a more gratifying career with a consistent increase of responsibility, expertise, and understanding that can be passed on to others. And then there’s this: in his article â€Å"Why You Need to Choose New Heroes,† Jeff Haden discusses an insight he had about the people he’d always chosen as heroes. He realized he had always seen himself in them, and that it was actually a bad thing: â€Å"The problem is the people I choose as heroes hold me back. The ones you choose can hold you back, too.† Haden chose a new hero based on the fact that â€Å"I saw something in him that I was not and definitely needed to be—no matter how awkward or uncomfortable it would be at firstThink way outside your hero box†¦If youre shy and reserved, pick a relentless self-promoter. If you love shooting from the hip, pick someone known for thorough analysis.† If you still want to go with an â€Å"illustrious role model,† as Murphy describes, then keep this in mind: be sure to take a really good look at your role model’s successes and failures. Studying the latter can help you build your own acumen. How so? In her post, Murphy also highlighted another study (conducted by researchers from National Chengchi University and Columbia University), in which participants were provided with readings on the theories of different scientists. They were then divided up, with one group receiving additional information that â€Å"praised† the scientists’ exceptional feats, while the other covered â€Å"struggles† the scientists had endured in their careers. What the researchers found was this: â€Å"The students who learned about scientists’ struggles developed less-stereotyped images of scientists, became more interested in science, remembered the material better, and did better at complex open-ended problem-solving tasks related to the lesson—while the students who read the achievement-based text actually developed more stereotypical images of scientists.† What does this all mean? It means that a role model who will serve you well will be very much human—flawed, experienced with failure, and probably without the reputation of being a miracle worker (nor would they push you to be one yourself). And we would encourage you to choose someone who might not be anything like you, yet has strengths that you do not. But be sure you choose wisely so that the only thing truly exceptional about your role model is what’s been proven over time. This kind of role model may not get the press that shooting stars do, but they shine just as brightly to those who are willing to look for them. And they are worthy of our emulation. My internship experiences gave me the chance to broaden my view of different cultures and different companies. I knew that I’d have likely stayed in my neighborhood for years to come if I didn’t take this opportunity. I’d not lived or studied outside of the U.S. before. So I left my job as a global strategist at an advertising agency and moved halfway around the world. I’ve come back a more culturally aware, well-versed person. I’ve realized that everything is a learning experience and an opportunity for growth. Ill definitely carry this mindset with me into the future. Technology and social media allow us to be different people in several places at once. Im excited to see how I can establish myself in whatever city Ill be lucky enough to call home and still maintain deep connections with people all over the world. I’m inspired by my classmates every day. Hearing some of their life stories and how getting this degree fits into their greater mission has been very humbling. My biggest challenge has been finding the ‘right’ path for me. There have been rooms Ive felt like I shouldnt be in, but now Im proud to feel as though I truly belong, wherever I am.† .
